I am finding myself meeting more and more business people who enquire about my services, who say that their site is old, and the guy who built it has stopped, or moved on, or they just can’t get in contact with them.
The answer, I’m finding more & more that people are after is to install full CMS, or Content Management Systems onto their sites. Not only does this mean that the owner can access pages to make minor adjustments, but the site can be managed by most competent web designers in case yours gets ‘run over by a bus’!
So, what to use? The simplest to install is WordPress, a free (open source) database system which can be stored with your host, and can run some or all of your site. Template designs can be downloaded off the shelf, or designed just for you. The beauty of WordPress is that it allows you to expand it’s functionality with 1000’s of free apps from photo media, to e-commerce, and password protected pages. You can also allow others access to edit pages from anywhere in the world. Joomla is another well known CMS system. Both require MySQL database facilities in your host account.
Get CMS, and watch Google ‘Go Ape’! There are hundreds of links in this blog alone. Get your whole site run on CMS and you will send Google Bananas!
